Every time I start building up momentum on Catching Up here, something has to come along to knock the wind out of my sails.

In this case, it's because, being as I am in just the right spot in Massachusetts to have been hit hard by our second Noreaster in as many weeks, I am currently without power, and likely will be for at least the next few days.  So, while I'll do what I can to stay connected, don't expect too much activity from me for a bit. XP

But hey, in Good News, I did get a new job. 8D  So look forward to hearing more about that once things settle down. ^_^

EDIT: Power is back on as of last night. ^_^

Where Was I?

1 min read
Apologies for going quiet here again over the last few days.  For once, though, it's not directly my fault.  Indeed, to quote Gandalf:

Basically?  I almost got suckered in to an Internet Security scam earlier this week.  I caught on before The Point Of No Return, fortunately, but unfortunately I got far enough in that I had to take my computer into the shop (a local Staples, specifically) to have it looked over and cleaned out of any potential viruses or malware that might have gotten ported onto it in the process.  I just got it back this morning (and all is well, thankfully), but in the interim I've had only limited access to the internet, so I haven't been able to do much of anything I'd wanted in regards to keeping pace with the site.
Still, I am back now, so hopefully I can get back on top of things soon enough.  My apologies to anyone who I've kept waiting or who's been curious/concerned about my absence.

Welcome one and all to the 2018 Edition of that old Goji favorite, "Why The Heck Have I Been So Quiet On Here Lately?"
Well, for one thing, my attention's had to move primarily over to finding a new job!  The bakery I'd been working at for the last three years closed down at the end of 2017, and I've been out of work since.  Still looking into possible new jobs, but as of yet, no luck, I'm afraid.  But!  I'm doing OK, thanks to my folks takin' care of me, and I'm determined not to give up.
That said, as a reminder, I AM TAKING COMMISSIONS RIGHT NOW  THE GOJI COMMISSIONS JOURNALYup!  Finally diving into this wide, wacky world.

For another, I had to leave town for a little bit earlier this week.  My friend Elisto and I had a funeral to attend together.  I only just got home the other day, so I'm still kinda getting myself back on rhythm, as it were.
And last but not least there's the general ennui that comes with The World Today being what it is.
But all of that being said, over the weekend I intend to try and get myself back on track, and that includes uploading a lot of the work I've been doing but not posting, so brace your inboxes for THAT in the coming days.

My Inspirations of 2017

So one of those newfangled meme things I’ve been seeing make the rounds a lot this year, in particular as the end of the year draws closer, is to let those creators whose work, be it art, writing, or otherwise has been meaningful to me this year.  I thus wanted to take this chance to showcase my appreciation for all of them.  Quite a few of the people listed are good friends of mine, too, but that just adds to the importance of their work to me, and I consider it my good fortune to know them.

To ALL of you, thank you for sharing your creativity with us, and your friendship.  You’ve been a big help for me getting through this strange, strange year.

StarlitSkvader is a wonderful, multi-talented creator.  Want warmly colored pics that use soft, rounded lines to communicate emotion?  She can do that.  Want exquisitely crafted ‘fics that perfectly expand on the characters and themes of the source material?  She can do that.  Want to put them both together and make a two-years running webcomic?  She can DEFINTIELY do that (srsly go read @underrift it’s wonderful).

Omnicenos  is an artist who I know was frustrated at not putting out a lot of art in 2017.  But “not a lot” isn’t the same as nothing, and the art she HAS made is, as ever, beautifully detailed, with increasingly impressive layering of color and shading, and an impeccable grasp of clean, flowing lines that allow her to build some lovingly elaborate characters and compositions.  Her persistence, as a person and as an artist, is a continued source of strength and support for me.

Elisto is an exceptional writer (and artist, too, but 2017 has primarily been a year for her writing).  She has a unique talent for finding exactly the right words to express her ideas, equal parts eloquent and compelling, and the thoroughness with which she examines and interrogates all the ideas she interacts with shines through in every piece she writes.  It allows her ideas and her work a rare but invaluable level of nuance and openness that I really appreciate.

kaikaku 's unique, leaf-based artwork is some of the most inspired, inventive artwork I have ever seen.  Equal parts photography, illustration, and pure, powerful craftsmanship, she is always finding new angles to explore the medium from, and uses it to convey powerful, moving, evocative emotions in endlessly fascinating ways.

BookishDelight is maybe the single best fanfiction writer I have ever known, and I sincerely consider that to be as high a compliment as I can give.  They understand, better than just about anyone else I’ve ever seen, how to simultaneously honor and really dig deep into their source material.  Along the way, they also showcase a fantastic understanding of structure, how to weave character and theme together, and they constantly work to challenge themselves to do more next time around.

voiceinsight always manages to impress me with how much she is able to grow and learn more and more with each picture.  She has a wonderful, painterly sense of color and textures, and her wonderful cast of characters, written with a wonderfully personal touch, come alive thanks to her excellent use of facial expressions and body language.

AnnChovi is so dedicated, and hard-working, and delightful to follow.  The warmth and good humor that goes into every piece she makes, the wonderful animated quality of all her lines, the clear, clean, compelling motion and emotion she puts into all her work…she’s a genuine deliht to follow, and her webcomic, @goodmorningstarshinecomic, is always a highlight whenever it shows up on my dash.

and last but not least is Chauvels , an animator and artist who always brings so much energy and personality to their work, and whose delightful sense of humor is equal parts creative and enlivening.  She always knows just what to do with her characters, how best to bring out their personality and dynamic, and it makes even her simplest pics pop with life and fun.
