Auto suspected the WALL-E and the rogue EVE would like his plan about as much as he did, which was to say not at all.  However, his practicality was still ingrained into his program, and ultimately the wheel knew it was their best bet.  EVE, however, was not so convinced.  Her gun remained firmly aimed at Auto, eyes slitted in anger.  "Directive?" she asked sharply.

Auto tilted slightly, eye focusing on EVE cautiously.  "...Negotiations." he answered.  "Safety of the Cap...Ship has been compromised.  Coordinated effort is necessary to avert danger."

This caused the probe to blink in confusion.  Was he...proposing an alliance?  With him?  WALL-E rolled over to the wheel cautiously, feeling his chest tighten somehow at the sight of the ominous autopilot.  He hummed a bit, motioning for Auto to explain further.  "The Forthright is in control of the Ship's crew now and is holding the Captain hostage at gunpoint.  He intends to take the Axiom off Earth as soon as possible." he answered simply.

This gave WALL-E pause.  The Captain?  At gunpoint?  He panicked a bit at the thought, circling around the quarters in worry.  "Must...stop!" he pleaded to Auto.

Auto's circuits tightened.  Disgusting emotional displays...this was what he was to be burdened with now?  These...feelings?  Still...he needed their help.  "Then we must work together." he said sternly.

EVE remained skeptical, but for the moment, she sheathed her gun.  "Plan?" she asked lowly.

"The Forthright is unaware of your presence." Auto answered.  "You have the element of surprise.  I will return to the Bridge and report a false alarm.  Once on the Bridge, I will secretly activate the Elevator from the Captain's Quarters to the Bridge.  Board it, then disarm the Forthright."

EVE looked to WALL-E worriedly.  It was a risky plan...but it was their only chance to save the Captain...to save everything they'd worked for since returning to this planet.  "WALL-E...?" she asked him, wanting his take on the situation.

WALL-E pondered it briefly...then gave a nod.  "Ready." he said confidently.

Auto looked at them both curiously; if it had been him in their shoes...if he was in a position to say "no" to this...he would have.  They were in that position...yet they accepted.  Even as he processed the peculiarity, Milton's voice called down impatiently.  "C'mon, Auto, find what caused the alarm then get back up here!" he whined.  "I can't steer these blobs of butter back to space if I don't have a wheel!"

"Roger." Auto replied, though his gaze remained fixed on WALL-E and EVE.  "Returning to Bridge."

He then slipped back up the chute, leaving two shaken...yet ready...robots.
10...9...8...only 8 days left. Will this unlikely alliance succeed?

I really like how you've elevated Auto above the status of pig-headed automaton to being an actual character with fears and (though it pains him to admit it) feelings...

One of the advantages of literature :)
