: Um, Coach Z, I think it's kind of cheating to go as yourself for Halloween.
: What are you torking about, Strong Bad? This costume's from a carractarr who's lonely, socially-ackword, obsessed with Pop and Hip-Hap muzak, spends most of his time in a dank, lonely attic....
We reach into the depths of Obscure Bad Movie Pop Musicals for Part two of this year's EPIC HALLOWEEN PROJECT, with Coach Z going all out as The Phantom of the Paradise. "Who the heck IS the Phantom of the Paradise?" you may ask if you are literally anyone else on this site other than me. Basically imagine a 70's Rock Opera update of the Phantom of the Opera and you're half-way there. Like the Cheat, this was obscenely fun to draw; the simple shapes just flowed out so easily, and Coach Z's design lent itself shockingly well to the Phantom's black-leather costume. It was also too much fun to play on Coach Z's traditional love of music-themed costumes with this bit of reference.
Hahaha! Oh man, what a trip! I've seen reviews of Phantom of the Paradise, looks pretty awful haha - and fits Coach Z well! Nice job!
Honestly? I actually think it's a surprisingly sharp satire of the 70's Pop-Music/Rock-and-Roll scene (plus it's directed by pre-stardom Brian DePalma, which makes it a fascinating historical curiosity to boot!). It's a cheaply-made to-the-hilt B-Movie too, to be sure, but that almost helps, in my opinion. x3
Glad you like; there's more to come. ^3^
That's on the list of 'heard of, never seen' I'm afraid. |D
Still, the pose and the flare of the cape look fantastic.
S'all good; that very level of awareness was kind of what I was counting on when I made the pic. <3
And yeah, as I said, these have all been amazingly fun to make because the simplicity of shapes used for the HR cast makes it so easy to give vitality to the poses. ^3^
I am happy some people still like Home Star Runner stuff :3
